Future projects Future workshops, outreach and engagement facilitated by ssDNAfrica

This workshop series will support students in developing ideas on the commercialisation of scientific research. This will involve a masterclass on the relevant skills, following which students will have the opportunity to develop and plan their own ideas. The best commercialisation plans can compete for an award. We hope this will help students to diversify the skills learnt during their degree, and gain exposure to career options in science.

Students will be connected with local farmers, with whom they can identify local agricultural needs. Research project ideas to address these needs will be developed. Through this activity we aim to give students awareness of the real-world applicability of their degree, as well as encouraging engagement with the community.

ssDNAfrica will work with students to create ‘how to’ videos on laboratory skills. These videos will be made freely available on the ssDNAfrica online platform. The students involved with making the videos will gain skills in science communication, while those viewing the videos will have access to visual tutorials to help develop lab skills.
